FAQs

What – exactly – is an online business manager (OBM)?

To be clear, an online manager is NOT an agent. They do not negotiate your professional deals (appearances, tours, etc.). They work behind the scenes to streamline the operational functions of your business, and that generally includes negotiating with vendors and suppliers.

Who should work with an OBM?

Any creative entrepreneur should work with an online business manager. Authors, spiritualists, artists & artisans, coaches, lifestyle gurus, influencers and musicians all need a solid business structure to succeed in their chosen genre.

Why should I work with an OBM?

You should work with a solutions manager because the business expertise they offer allows you to focus on your craft. A solutions manager will work closely with you as a hands-on expert to create a tailored solution for all of your specific operational requirements.

Why shouldn’t I use AI tools for my online business management?

AI tools are great for some things such as research and early ideation. The bottom line is that AI online business management tools still require you to oversee them. That means you are still spending time and energy on understanding and managing the processes that AI tools generate instead of focusing on your craft.

What specific work does an OBM do?

OBMs create cohesive processes that combine all of the administrative, financial, marketing and logistical tasks into a streamlined system that saves your time and energy so you can focus on the reasons you started your business. They solve all types of problems from logistical bottlenecks to confusing sales strategies to poor customer relations management by listening to your needs and investing in your vision to create the solutions that help you thrive.

How does an OBM “fit” with a creative entrepreneur?

OBMs are also entrepreneurs in many cases. They work with several clients and structure their time to ensure they meet the needs and deadlines of each one. Each client has their own needs, and they collaborate with you to customize a strategy that meets your specific requirements.

Where does an OBM operate from?

The ease of technology allows OBMs to work from anywhere.

When is the best time to engage with an OBM?

There is never a “wrong” time to work with an OBM. Seasoned managers can jump into your business to begin implementing the necessary structure and processes that fit your needs once onboarding is complete.

How much do OBMs charge for their services?

OBMs use retainer structures and project-based fees for single-service or customized package projects.

What fee structure do you use?

I use both a project fee and monthly retainer structure because it best fits my scheduling routine and allows me the flexibility to maintain a proper work-life balance. I may use a “project based” hourly rate if it makes sense for a one-off situation.
